Carers respite break in Stourport Manor
The Carers Support Service facilitates breaks for carers of older black people with assessed needs. Weekend breaks are arranged for carers at various locations. Carers have the opportunity to get a complete break from their caring responsibilities and concentrate on themselves for a change. Bed, breakfast, evening meals and use of the leisure facilities are provided.
Carers commented on the beneficial nature of breaks and expressed a wish for there increase. Unfortunately some carers do not have access to these breaks through problems of arranging respite for cared ones.
The African Caribbean Care Group also offer a sitting and befriending service provided by the Carers Support Worker to allow carers to have a shorter (sessional) break. Individual breaks are available to carers who do not like going away in groups or who find the weekend too long.
