The African Caribbean Care Group for the Elderly (ACCG) Outreach Service provides a service to the Older Black Community in both Manchester and Trafford by targeting community health and social care initiatives at them.

This service is available 5 days a week and continues to be successful in combating health and social care deficits in target communities. There has been a noticeable increase over the past year in the number of people referred to the Care Group for day care, including referrals for existing members who are in need of more health and social care support within the formal day care setting.

From the referrals, it has been noticed that there are many more Black Caribbean Elderly People in need of care than is generally anticipated. This is especially the case in relation to the need for support or to combat isolation or just generally wanting to get out and meet people from their own culture.

From the pattern of referrals made it is clear that provision of a culturally sensitive service for black people is needed in Trafford and Manchester as provided by ACCG. The ACCG also accepts referrals from outside its normal catchment area, providing that the referring agency is able to make transport arrangements, independent of ACCG’s transport.
Please see ACCG Annual Report 2004-2005 for further information on Community Outreach.
